Paul McCartney, Nirvana cap a benefit concert for the ages
Today’s jam with the pop-culture world finds a benefit concert that rivals all benefit concerts, Tom Cruise, Lindsay Lohan, other things, and the mystery music video.
12-12-12: And Sandy, per the Huffington Post, “Paul McCartney did his best Kurt Cobain impersonation on Wednesday night, joining Nirvana's Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic for a spirited performance at the 12-12-12 concert. The special development closed the show, which benefits victims of Hurricane Sandy.” http://huff.to/UlIQaH
MEANWHILE: Here’s a terrific review of the show, per the New York Times, “Homestate heroes, a British rock pantheon, one rapper and one woman performed for 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief, a benefit for the Robin Hood Relief Fund that was broadcast worldwide from Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.” http://nyti.ms/UbKqwg
AND THIS: Ditto, per Rolling Stone, “Even without the Nirvana reunion, the "12-12-12" concert – organized rather quickly over the past six weeks to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy – would have been one of the most memorable all-star shows in history. It was the first time the Stones and the Who had shared a stage since The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus in 1968, and throwing in Chris Martin, Alicia Keys, a surprise appearance by Michael Stipe along with Springsteen, McCartney Joel, Bon Jovi and Waters ranks it up there with Live Aid, Live 8, the Concert For Bangladesh and very few other gigs in rock history.” http://rol.st/XgsukS
GOOD READ: To make a movie or not to make a movie?, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Hollywood film studios have evolved so dramatically during the past decade that it feels as though some are making movies almost reluctantly. As one producer puts it, "Studios are becoming marketing and distribution service companies." Aside from pre-branded franchises and sequels, asks another veteran producer, "What is our business about?" http://bit.ly/UbM4Ot
SCULLY!: In a roundabout kind of way, per Entertainment Weekly, “Sci-fi fan-favorite Gillian Anderson is returning to broadcast television after a decade to join writer-producer Bryan Fuller’s serial-killer thriller Hannibal. And perhaps the best part is the role she’s playing. In a multi-episode arc on the upcoming NBC drama, Anderson is going to play Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier — murderous psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s (Mads Mikkelsen) own therapist.” http://bit.ly/U9dHI5
SHOCKING: Just say it with a straight face, per Radar, “It seems that Tom Cruise is a perfectionist when it comes to his work AND his home life! The Jack Reacher star, 50, steers a tightly run ship when it comes to his palatial Bel Air estate, a well placed source says, telling RadarOnline.com exclusively that the actor controls his household staff's access around the home by creating specified 'zones' and restricting them from entering areas that they aren't assigned to work in.” http://rdar.co/Umyyag
PAY THE MAN: Just do it, per TMZ, “Lindsay Lohan is on the verge of losing expensive designer clothes, family heirlooms and potentially embarrassing items ... because she hasn't paid her storage bill and as a result the unit is about to go up on the auction block. Sources close to Lindsay tell us ... LiLo has fallen behind on paying her monthly bill ... and now owes roughly $16,000 to the storage company.” http://tmz.me/UVg7Nn
JUSTIN BIEBER: Of a supposed, so-called, alleged murder plot, per E!, “Two fugitives arrested last month, one in Vermont and the other in New York, had plotted to kill the teen pop idol and several other people, according to New Mexico's KRQE News 13, which reports that investigators believe the two men were conspiring with a convicted murderer they met in prison.” http://eonli.ne/U9YXZw
IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING: A breakup and a hook-up, per Us Weekly, “Renee Zellweger has a new man -- Sheryl Crow's ex! The actress, 43, was photographed giving guitarist/producer Doyle Bramhall II a big kiss on the lips in LAX Wednesday, Dec. 12. The couple wore matching black coats, jeans and shades as they walked through the Los Angeles airport together.” http://usm.ag/ZhVZrN
AND FINALLY: Today’s mystery music video. http://bit.ly/W7Pzaj
