December 28, 2012 - 12:51 pm
A Loudoun County sheriff’s deputy was charged Thursday after police say he assaulted his friend.
Robert DeGroot, 29, faces misdemeanor assault and battery charges after allegedly trying to strangle another man. When police responded to the home on Bruceton Mills Circle in Ashburn, the victim was outside and said DeGroot assaulted him while the two were doing work on the home. He was taken to the hospital and released.
DeGroot is a seven-year veteran of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. He’s been placed on administrative leave and is being held without bond.
