Police say several suspects stole a car in Landover Friday and then allegedly began stealing items out of cars at a number of different locations.

Sharon Gardner believes she was one of the victims of the early morning crime spree. She says her purse was snatched out of her backseat while she was vacuuming her car at a Northeast gas station.

“He grabbed my pocketbook,” she says. “He wasn’t even the driver.”

Gardner says she gave police the tag number. Police later spotted the car in Oxon Hill and twice attempted to pull it over, but the car fled.

Authorities say the driver then lost control, crashed into a white car and ran into the bus at the intersection of Southern Avenue and 13th Street. The bus was on the P12 route and headed to the East Over Shopping Center. Several people, including the driver of the car and the bus, were injured and taken to the hospital.

Gardner says it could have been much worse.

“The first thing I thought was I’m glad they didn’t pull a weapon to get my car or my pocketbook,” she says.

The suspects have not been identified and charges are still pending. Two are in custody in Prince George's County and one is in custody in D.C. waiting for extradition.
