Speed limits increased on portion of Benning Road, I-295
Speed limits were increased on two D.C. roadways, D.C. police announced on Twitter.
Speed limits went up on two roads with speed cameras. The speed limit is now 35 mph on Benning Road between Oklahoma and Kennilworth avenues, NE. On I-295 from Eastern Avenue to the stretch of interstate near the Wilson Bridge, the speed limit is now 55 mph.
The increases are effective immediately and will be enforced.
Last week, AAA, which has led the way in criticizing speed cameras, said this is a step in the right direction.
“The approach that they’re looking at is based on signs and engineering and not on people making a political decision so speeds should be set at safe and reasonable speeds that are rational,” says John Townsend.
