Three die when pickup crashes into tractor-trailer on Springfield Interchange
December 27, 2012 - 09:04 pm
Three people were killed Thursday night when a pickup truck slammed into a tractor-trailer on a ramp from I-495 to I-95 South in Springfield.
Virginia State Police responded to a call at 7:03 p.m. A police statement says the tractor-trailer was stopped in traffic in the westbound flyover ramp when the pickup hit it.
All three occupants of the pickup truck died in the crash, police say. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
At the time of the police statement, the I-495 flyover ramp to I-95 south was closed to all traffic. Traffic was being diverted to the new ramp from I-495 to southbound I-95 HOV lanes and was moving slowly.
