(AP/ABC7) SPRINGFIELD- Three people killed in a collision on the Capital Beltway were family members from Pennsylvania on the way to attend the funeral of a relative, authorities said.
Police identified the victims today as Peter Stesney, 87, and Laura Kordelski, 51, of Allentown, Pa., and Bernice Supinski, 85, of Bath, Pa.
The three were traveling to Florida when the pickup truck driven by Stesney rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic Wednesday night on the Interstate 495 southbound ramp to I-95 south at Springfield, police said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
