Michael Steven Poe's body found in ventilation unit
MPD officials say that the man found dead inside a ventilation unit in Adams Morgan Wednesday is that of a man who went missing from the area on New Year's Eve.
Authorities say that that the body found in the 1800 block of Biltmore Street NW belongs to 23-year-old Michael Steven Poe, who was reported missing in the midst of New Year celebrations in Northwest Washington.
Poe had been last seen with friends at Shenanigans Bar at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. The group split up, but Poe never returned from D.C.
He was last heard from via cell phone about two hours after he split from his group
D.C. Fire officials say that someone in the area saw the body in the unit and reported it to police. Poe was found unresponsive.
An investigation into how Poe was killed continues.
Wednesday night, Lorna Shurkin said she first heard loud noises then a disturbing noise.
“I heard a long screeching sound and I don't know - was that them pulling his body out,” she asks.
