Chris Yung funeral winds through streets of Prince William County
For family members of Prince William County Police officer Chris Yung, whose funeral was held Friday just days after he was killed in the line of duty, the ceremonies were exactly they way their loved one would have wanted them.
"He wouldn't want us to be grieving," Dale Yung, Chris' brother, said. "He'd want us to be smiling."
Yung, a 35-year-old veteran of the county's police force, was killed Monday afternoon in a car crash in Bristow while responding to call. He was just the third Prince William County officer to die in the line of duty since 1970.
The smiling at Yung's funeral would have to happen through tears, though, as family and friends remembered and honored him. The 7-year police veteran and former member of the United States Marine Corps was remembered by hundreds of officers and relatives.
"We know when they leave, (there's a) chance they might never come back," Kris Eyler, the wife of another county officer, said.
Yung is survived by his wife Robin, a former Prince William County officer in her own right, and three young children who all rode together in a patrol car leading Friday's funeral procession through the county.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Mourners, though, preferred to focus not on how Yung tragically died but how well he loved every one of them.
