D.C. storm Wednesday: Bloomingdale residents prepare for storm
With a monster storm heading our way Wednesday night, some people braced for a winter deluge of rain. In the flood-prone neighborhood of Bloomingdale, Unanyow Abajay piled sandbags in front of his cafe.
“I don't know how heavy it is. But I hope it will be okay,” he says.
The severe weather barreling down on us sent an advance blast of warm air. In just hours, residents in the D.C. area went from stinging cold to sweating it out.
Some of the people expressed fear. The extreme temperature fluctuation would mean wicked weather ahead. Still, some said they were just glad to get a break from the cold.
“It feels great. I feel like I should just go to the beach,” says District resident Trevor Eischen.
Also during the brief period between bitter cold and pounding storm, some returned to outdoor activities they swore off when winter hit. But most are aware the warm up is temporary.
It is still January and it's a long haul till spring really arrives.
