Alexandria police say two men have been arrested for stealing two police cruisers last month.

The first cruiser was stolen Dec. 14, 2012 from the 2700 block of Duke Street and recovered that evening.

A Remington 870 shotgun and a Panasonic Toughbook laptop were stolen from the vehicle.

Four days later, a second police cruiser was stolen. The 2007 Ford Crown Victoria was taken from the 1500 block of Princess Street and found a short time later in Northeast D.C.

Alexandria police say no department-owned equipment was taken from the car.

At the time they were stolen, both cars were parked, as is routine, outside the homes of officers overnight.

Police arrested 31-year-old Daniel Michael Harris during a Jan. 6 traffic stop in Anne Arundel County. He is charged with grand larceny auto and possession of stolen property. Harris is awaiting extradition from Annapolis.

Corie Gezono Yates, 33, was arrested Jan. 8 at the Alexandria Courthouse. Yates is charged with grand larceny auto, conspiracy to commit grand larceny and possession of stolen property. He is being held without bond.

Police say the Remington 870 shotgun and the Panasonic Toughbook Mobile Computer have not been found.
