Fairfax County water main breaks cause lane closures, delays
Two separate water main breaks in different parts of Fairfax County have caused separate sets of lane closures.
The first water main break took place at RT 1 northbound/N. Kings Highway. As a result of the break, the two right lanes are blocked and there are delays through the morning rush hour. Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid the area. Fairfax Water Spokesperson Jeanne Bailey said they hope the incident will be cleared from the road in the next hour.
The second water main break took place at Little River Turnpike & Willow Run Drive in Lincolnia. As a result of the incident, the left eastbound lane is blocked, but the right lane is getting by. Bailey said that the break was in a 30 inch transmission water main. She also added that once they turn off the water, between 30 and 50 customers will either lose water or have low water pressure.
Bailey says given the size of the main it will take a few hours just to drain the water before they can begin repairs. Crews will be in the roadway for most of the day.
