Georgina Afful-Asar fatally struck in Montgomery County

A 54-year-old woman died Wednesday from injuries she received after being struck by an SUV.

According to police, a 2002 maroon Mitsubishi Montero was traveling through the parking lot near the Orchard Center shopping center Tuesday evening when it jumped a curb, striking Georgina Afful-Asar as she walked on the sidewalk along Broadbirch Drive.

Afful-Asar was taken to the Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she died Wednesday.

The driver of the Montero, 53-year-old Jane W. Ndungu Maranga, was also taken to an area hospital. She suffered minor injuries.
