Helen Dragas, UVa. rector, wins reappointment
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia rector who led the failed attempt to oust the school's president has won a second four-year term.
The House of Delegates voted 63-33 Tuesday to confirm the reappointment of Helen Dragas to the university's Board of Visitors. The Senate approved her reappointment last week.
Dragas orchestrated last summer's firing of U.Va. President Teresa Sullivan, who was reinstated after a two-week revolt by faculty, students and alumni.
Opponents of her reappointment argued that she should be held accountable for the damage caused to U.Va. Some donors have abandoned the university, and an accrediting panel placed the school on warning.
Supporters of Dragas said she and Sullivan have expressed a desire to put the matter behind them and move forward.
