Jim Graham drops bid to join DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corp board

WASHINGTON (AP) - A D.C. councilmember is no longer pushing to join the board of a youth nonprofit that a former councilmember used to steal from the city.

Councilmember Jim Graham said Thursday that he was withdrawing his request for a nonvoting position on the board of the DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corp.

Former councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. was convicted last year of stealing more than $353,000 in city funds that he steered through the organization. He is serving a 3 ½-year prison sentence.

Graham says he requested a seat on the board in order to make the organization more transparent. He says he feels his message has been sent.

The group's chairman, Robert Bobb, had objected to Graham's request to sit on the board.
