Updated: January 10, 2013 - 12:18 am
An employee at a home daycare that was operating illegally is facing physical child abuse and second-degree assault charges.
Prince George's County police arrested 19-year-old Johnathan Desmond Cummings of Upper Marlboro on Jan. 7. He has been released on $35,000 bond.
Officers were called to the unlicensed daycare in the 13600 block of Wood Ember Drive on Monday for reports of child abuse. A witness captured Cummings on video allegedly assaulting a 2-year-old boy.
Investigators say Cummings admitted to kicking the child. He has been released on a $35,000 bond. Police believe there could be other victims.
The daycare was issued a cease and desist order by the Maryland State Department of Education's Office of Child Care. They cannot resume caring for children until they acquire the proper licensing.
