Marcus Jones: Arrests made in death of Fort Washington teen
Two teens have been arrested in connection with the death of 16-year-old Marcus Jones.
Akil Darnell Ings, 17, and Kquantae Markies Fisher, 19, are accused in Jones' death. Police are still searching for a third suspect.
Jones was gunned down around midnight Saturday. Investigators said Jones, Fisher and Ings were guests at a chaperoned party for a 15-year-old on Webster Lane.
Police say tension had been rising all night between Jones's gang, Danger Boys, and members of rival gang Baby Haiti.
Police say the party was carefully planned. Those invited were required to show identification at the door, but they say word of the party spread and some were turned away.
When the party broke up at midnight, shots were fired as the crowd was leaving.
Jones was walking to his car when he was shot. Ings allegedly pulled the trigger.
Students say their classmate's death was devastating. Parents are upset too, especially now that police say this was gang related.
In a press conference Thursday, Prince George’s County Police said the murder was gang-related.
Also at the press conference, Friendly principal Raynah Adams said he believes Danger Boys is active at his school. He's fighting back with mentoring programs and extra security.
Some parents say it's not enough.
"These kids, they feel unprotected, they really feel unprotected, and they are really scared," says Linbert White Jr., a parent.
Others say the school is doing what it can.
"The school can only do so much, so I don't know where the parents are. He wasn't in a gang, he wasn't that type of child," says Miranda Watson, a parent.
Yvette Hill, Marcus Jones's aunt, says the family is really struggling.
"We need to do something about it, something has to be stopped with these young kids carrying these guns," Hill says.
Both teens face first degree murder charges.
