But a Salisbury jury on Thursday found 30-year-old Jamal Woolford Sr. guilty of reckless endangerment, firearms - access by minors, and several drug offenses.

Woolford's son, Jamal Woolford Jr., fatally shot himself and injured his mother on March 5 with a gun his father kept in the bedroom.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that Woolford testified during trial that he bought the gun to protect his family. He said he mostly kept the weapon under the bed.
