WEST FRIENDSHIP, Md. (AP/ABC7) - A Maryland State trooper crashed into a tree Wednesday afternoon on I-70 at 32 in Ellicott City.
Police say Cpl. Matthew Telep is in serious condition at Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
Troopers say Telep was in uniform and traveling in a marked patrol car about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-70 in West Friendship when he ran off the road and hit a tree. A witness believes he was cut off by another vehicle.
Police say the 5-year veteran was trapped and had to be extricated by personnel from the Howard County Fire Department.
Police think Telep was on his way home after a highway escort assignment.
The accident is under investigation.
