WASHINGTON (AP) - Metro says it has paid $1.6 million to settle 84 claims stemming from the 2009 crash on its red line.

The Washington Post reports Metro released the list of payments on Friday in response to a records request. The payments, which do not include settlements from federal lawsuits related to the crash, range from $333 to $150,000.

Metro told the paper it withheld additional records related to lawsuits because disclosing those amounts would be an invasion of privacy and also harm the agency's ability to settle remaining cases.

The 2009 red line crash killed a train operator and eight passengers. Dozens were injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board said a malfunction of the automatic train control system caused the crash.
