Red Line delays due to unscheduled track work
Updated: January 16, 2013 - 10:01 am
WASHINGTON (AP/ABC7) - Metro service along a busy portion of the Red Line is returning to normal Wednesday after a track switch problem caused delays of up to 45 minutes during the morning rush hour.
Metro says crews were forced to undertake unscheduled maintenance to replace a switch point near the Judiciary Square station.
Single tracking has ended between Farragut North and Union Station, WMATA officials say, but delays continued throughout the morning as serviced eased back to normal.
Customers who can use the Green Line as an alternate route are advised to do so.
As pointed out by the @FixWMATA Twitter account, this same area of the Red Line is slated to be shut down this weekend for major track work. Starting Friday night at 10 p.m., the Farragut North, Metro Center, Gallery Place and Judiciary Square stations will be closed for work.
