Shaw assault investigated as possible hate crime
WASHINGTON (AP/ABC7) - D.C. police say they're investigating an attack on two men as a possible hate crime.
The men were assaulted Sunday evening in the Shaw neighborhood of Northwest Washington. Police say a group of young men followed them, and the victims were called a derogatory term for gay men.
The men posted an account of the attack on a neighborhood blog.
One of the men who was attacked talked to ABC7 off-camera. The 25-year-old D.C. man says he was walking to dinner at the corner of 3rd and Q streets in Northwest when several people came after them.
Police say one teenage boy pushed his bicycle into the victims and struck both of them with a closed fist while yelling.
Police have assigned their Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit to investigate the case.
