Subway footlong scandal

NEW YORK (AP) - A footlong not a foot? More than 100,000 people have "liked" a man's Facebook posting showing a Subway footlong sandwich measuring just 11 inches. The photo had been posted on Subway's Facebook page, but was no longer evident yesterday afternoon.

The original posting appeared to come from Australia. A spokesman for the sandwich chain says Subway didn't remove the photo. The New York Post did its own investigation and found that four out of seven footlongs were shy of 12 inches.

A Subway spokesman says the length of sandwiches might vary slightly, if the bread baked at each location is not made to exact specifications.
