Surcharge fees: Businesses can add surcharge to make up for credit card fees
January 27, 2013 - 11:44 am
Starting today, you may notice an extra surcharge on your purchases if you use your credit card, WTOP reports. The new fee, which ranges anywhere from 1.5 to 4 percent of the total purchase, is to make up for what businesses pay in credit card fees.
If and when a business decides to charge the fee, customers will be notified by signs and information posted online.
The surcharges are a result of the multibillion dollar deal that credit card companies and merchants reached last summer.
