One day after President Obama put forth his plan to combat gun violence, Vice President Joe Biden is taking the issue to mayors across the country.

Later on Thursday, Biden is expected to speak before the Conference of Mayors.

Wednesday, President Obama signed 23 executive actions including orders to make more federal information available for background checks. The president’s $500 million dollar plan calls on Congress to, among other things, ban military style assault weapons.

The measures are already facing strong opposition.
