Vienna explosive device found on Maple Avenue was inert
A device found in the parking lot of a tire shop in Vienna Wednesday morning was determined to be an inert grenade, officials say.
A town spokesperson says that the device was found in the parking lot of a Merchant Tire at 141 Maple Avenue West. A store employee spotted the device at about 7:15 a.m. and called police.
Investigators later determined that there was nothing in the device that made it dangerous or explosive.
The road was temporarily closed between Lawyers Road and Center Street, but the road has since reopened.
A Fairfax County bomb squad robot removed the device and an investigation continues.
