January 27, 2013 - 01:53 pm
Move over Broadway - the nation's capital is moving on up in the theater market.
Washington comes in right behind New York City as the most important theater town in the U.S., WTOP reports.
The 80 professional theaters around the District are a driving force to the city's economy.
This year's Helen Hayes Awards are a very big deal for Washington. For the first time Monday night, TheatreWashington will announce the 2013 Helen Hayes Awards Nominations at the National Theater's Helen Hayes Gallery. The nominations will be streamed online starting at 6:45 p.m.
