February 7, 2013 - 08:03 pm
An Amtrak train hit and killed a man who was walking on the tracks just south of Alexandria, between Backlick Road and the Beltway, around 7 p.m. Thursday.
Two hundred and twenty six passengers traveling to New Orleans from New York are on the train. Steve Kulum, an Amtrak spokesman, said the train is being held until authorities clear the tracks.
VRE train 337 is stopped at Backlick Road due to the accident. Three buses will come to the station to take passengers home.
