One man is making a difference for many who use the Metro by creating his own Metro smartphone app.

“If there was an app where I could press a button that would be a good thing,” says Beth Anne Sieber, who admits she doesn’t have the smartest of cell phones. She lives in Adams Morgan and takes the bus to work every day.

Sieber checks the Metro website or calls the number to check on bus schedules.

Jason Rosenbaum could be Sieber’s solution.

“I was frustrated,” he says.

The D.C. resident says the phone application he used to rely on stopped working, and although he tried others, he could not find the perfect match. The non-profit computer guy by day and musician by night decided he would use his weekends to come up with his own app. He called it Bus Track D.C.

“So I made my own with all the features that I thought I wanted,” he says.

You’ll recognize it because it incorporated the District’s flag.

“When you open it up it shows you where you are, it shows you the bus stops around you and you can click on a bus stop and you can find out when the next buses are coming.”

The app also tells you the direction of the bus. It’s only been weeks since he unveiled it and already there’s an update which allows users to save their favorite bus stops.

“So far the reception has been great. We’ve had thousands of downloads.”

Sieber could be the next download if she gets a new phone.

The app is free and Rosenbaum doesn’t plan to charge in the future because he wants everyone to have access to it.
