A soccer coach at Riverdale Baptist School in Landover was sentenced Friday to 35 years behind bars for sexually abusing a 15-year-old student.

A judge sentenced Charles Vasser, 35, who was convicted in January on five counts of child sexual abuse.

“Our community is especially devastated when a child is sexually abused at the hands of someone who seemed to be a trusted and responsible adult,” said Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks. “As a result of this sentence, Mr. Vasser will have plenty of time to reflect on his terrible actions.”

Vasser had sex with the victim from October 2008 to July 2009.
