A two-alarm fire in Manassas sent two firefighters and a resident to the hospital late Monday night. Just moments after firefighters responded to the fire at the Chatsworth Park Apartments on Lady Jane Loop, they had to evacuate the building after the roof collapsed into the third floor.

ABC7 is told one resident was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, while two firefighters were transported for health issues. One of them was dealing with high blood pressure.

The fire started on the third floor unit and 24 units have been condemned.

The Red Cross is helping the 60 people who were displaced because of the fire. Preliminary damage is estimated at $300,000.

One displaced resident came back to survey the damage, including the gaping hole on the roof and to see if anything can be salvaged inside his apartment. But it will he sometime before he's allowed back in.

"The hallway was full of … foggy and everything," says displaced resident Brashenth Sundar. "Pretty scary to think that I was sleeping inside."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Marco and Marcella Gabarette came back Tuesday to assess the damage.

They are in a hotel now. They say their unit is soggy and smelly. They are thankful they and their children are safe.

“That was the first thing I grabbed the children,” Marco Gabarette. “ And we are really happy because we got two little ones.”
