Edwin Morales arrested in gang-related killing in College Park: Police

Police have arrested Edwin Morales, 20, as a suspect in the killing of David Esequel Avelar of Hillcrest Heights in what police say was a gang-related fight early Sunday, February 24, in College Park.
Morales of the 3300 block of Monterey Lane in Southeast Washington, was arrested by Prince George's County Police on Friday, March 1, in the 3000 block of 14th Street in Northwest Washington, according to the PGPD News Blog.
Avelar, 20, of the 6600 block of 94th Avenue in Hillcrest Heights, was found in the 9100 block of Baltimore Avenue at about 4 a.m. suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The police investigation reveals that Avelar was at a party at a hotel on Baltimore Avenue. In the parking lot a fight broke out between a group Avelar was with and another group at the same hotel. Avelar was shot.
