Dowen Knight sentenced in slaying of shop owner

WASHINGTON (AP) - A man convicted of killing a Northwest shop owner during a robbery has been sentenced to 52 1/2 years in prison.
Forty-eight-year-old Dowen Knight of Washington was convicted of first-degree felony murder while armed in October in the death of 51-year-old Rufina Hernandez of Hyattsville, Md. Knight was sentenced on Friday.
According to evidence presented at trial, Knight and another man entered La Casa de Morata, a liquor store, on Nov. 7, 2009. Prosecutors say Knight shot Hernandez in the face after she opened the cash register and let him take money from it.
