A cafeteria worker at the Department of Homeland Security's headquarters in Northwest Washington says she has been repeatedly sexually assaulted inside the building.

According to a police report filed earlier this week, the 32-year-old woman alleges that her supervisor sexually assaulted her in the coat room inside the Nebraska Avenue NW building. She says the abuse has been going on since last spring at the heavily secured and controlled headquarters.

In one instance, the victim told police she was shoved face-first into a wall and raped.

The allegations are being investigated by D.C. police.

“That is unacceptable, to be honest, and the fact that it is in that building is worse,” says Northwest D.C. resident Vida Chiger.

In a statement, DHS officials say that a contract employee has already been arrested and charged in the case:

“Late last year, a contract employee assigned to the Nebraska Avenue Complex cafeteria was arrested by the DHS Federal Protective Service following allegations of sexual abuse and assault by a fellow contract employee. The individual has been charged in superior court and has been ordered to stay away from both the complainant and DHS property.
