John Wesley Jeffries identified as person of interest in double homicide in Fauquier County
It's the fact that this area is usually so still that makes this awful crime so shocking.
A husband and wife, Nelson Slack, 80, and Ethel Slack, 74, were found dead Sunday at 7282 Bunker Hill Rd with trauma to the upper body of both victims, according to a statement by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.
Police are looking for John Wesley Jeffries, 60, of Fredericksburg, as a person of interest.
A sheriff's officer spokesperson, Lt. James Hartman tells ABC7 that Jeffries has not been charged with homicide in the case.
"We just want to question him about what he knows about this homicide." Hartman says.
Fauquier County deputies went to the home of the Slacks at about 11 a.m. for a check on their welfare when friends reported that they weren't at church Sunday morning. The deputies found the house locked and their car gone. A look out was broadcast to area law enforcement agencies to check on the couple's welfare.
At about 1:15 p.m., deputies returned to the house with a family member and made forced entry into the house. They found the Slacks' bodies, Hartman says.
A vehicle believed to be driven by Jeffries was found about a half mile from the murder scene. The victims’ vehicle was taken from the scene and later recovered in the Fredericksburg area. It’s now in the custody of the sheriff’s office.
Jeffries is listed as a sexually violent offender. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Jeffries is wanted on felony charges, unrelated to this case, of Abduction, Strangling and Malicious Wounding by the Spotsylvania County Sheriffs Office.
