Laura Neuman sworn in as Anne Arundel County Executive
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - There's a new county executive in Anne Arundel County.
Republican Laura Neuman was sworn into office Friday morning. She says she's humbled by the opportunity and is eager to get to work.
Neuman replaces disgraced County Executive John Leopold, who resigned this month after a judge found him guilty of misconduct in office. The misconduct included using his security detail to perform political campaign activities while on the job and making staffers empty his urine catheter bag.
Neuman will serve out the nearly 22 months left in Leopold's term. The next election is in November 2014.
She was chosen by the Anne Arundel County Council from a field of 16 candidates vying for the position, including Kendel Ehrlich, the wife of former Gov. Robert Ehrlich.
