Eric Eugene Walker killed in Branch Ave. gas station shooting
Just hours after a 18-year-old man was fatally shot in Forestville, Prince George's County police were on the scene of yet another shooting where a man was killed.
Around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to 3636 Branch Avenue for reports of a shooting. Eric Eugene Walker, 27, was killed in the incident.
Walker was pumping gas at the Sunoco when the gunman, identified by police as 34-year-old Duane Lamar Williams, approached him. The victim ran, and the gunman allegedly chased and shot him. There was an off-duty MPD officer inside the victim's vehicle at the time who attempted to arrest the suspect.
Police say Williams was high on PCP when he targeted Walker.
Williams then tried to shoot the officer, but the gun wouldn't discharge, detectives explained. In Baltimore, Walker's family worries PCP will be used in Williams' defense in future court proceedings.
"I hope they don't try to use that as an excuse and let him get away with it...," the victim's sister-in-law said.
Officers had to use a Taser on the suspect multiple times before they were able to make an arrest, authorities said.
Police say this wasn't a robbery or a carjacking.
"He deserves life. He took a 27-year-old man's life for no reason at all," Walker's sister-in-law added. "Our loved one died a horrible death. That's not right."
Williams is facing first and second degree murder charges among others.
An 18-year-old Suitland High School student was fatally shot in a double shooting about five miles away five hours earlier.
The two shootings are not believed to be connected, authorities say.
