SCOTUS should overturn DOMA, Obama administration says
February 23, 2013 - 08:27 am
The Obama administration is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down parts of the Defense of Marriage Act, according to POLITICO.
In a brief filed Friday, the Obama administration is arguing that the 1996 law barring recognition of same-sex couples by the federal government for income tax purposes, federal employee benefits and other programs violates equal protection guarantees under the constitution.
The Obama administration has pushed courts to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act for two years.
