And students use an eBook, not a textbook.

These are changes today's teachers are making in an effort to better engage their technology-savvy students and give them the skills they need to succeed.

“I think if you can marry the content and technology learning together in a class then that's going to help the kids,” Halla says

Teachers and students went to the Newseum Wednesday - both in person and virtually nationwide - for a digital townhall meeting.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan says the change is desperately needed.

And though there are some roadblocks, like budget constraints and resistant teachers, students who are experiencing this new way of learning say it's about time.

“We live in the 21st century. Everything is online now,” says senior Kwame Benpong. “So I think schools should evolve with the rest of the world.”
