Executive director of student health Dr. James Turner says the infected student is recovering.

Turner tells The Daily Progress that 47 students who had direct contract with the infected student have been treated for the disease.

Bacterial meningitis is a potentially fatal disease. Early onset symptoms include fever, headache, a stiff neck, nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light.
