VDOT asked to study adding HOT lanes to Fairfax County Parkway
The 495 Express Lanes opened in November and now an idea is being floated to add similar HOT lanes to another busy road - the Fairfax County Parkway.
But not everyone is on board.
When traffic is moving on the parkway, drivers have few complaints. When it's not moving - like near I-66 at rush hour - the gripes pile up as fast as the traffic.
Some drivers, like Elizabeth Allen, like the idea of adding HOT lanes to the parkway. But others – like Steve Krahling - think the lanes would only add congestion and frustration.
Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity is asking VDOT to study the possibility of widening the parkway to three lanes to add HOT lanes or HOV lanes.
He says those are just a few many ideas out there to relieve traffic along the heavily traveled 35-mile stretch of road.
Even if the solution is not yet clear, drivers clearly believe answers are needed for the future.
