Bay Bridge accident still under investigation
The Maryland Transportation Authority is still investigating whether a tractor-trailer that overturned on the Bay Bridge should have been there in the first place.
The truck overturned Wednesday afternoon while wind restrictions were in place, and the bridge was closed to traffic shortly thereafter. A trailer with a full load would have been allowed on the bridge at the time, but authority officials won't say whether the truck was full because their investigation of the accident is not complete.
Meanwhile, authority officials say the new closure policy for the bridge worked as intended. The policy was updated last summer so that wind gusts, and not just sustained winds, can lead to restrictions. The authority also upgraded the equipment used to measure wind speeds on the bridge.
