Carol Johnson with the National Park Service says the blossoms are at 70 percent peak.

The average peak bloom date is April 4, but warm weather drew the blossoms to peak earlier this season. The earliest peak was March 15, 1990, according to The Washington Post.

This year's Cherry Blossom Festival will be celebrated March 20 – April 14, bringing traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty and community spirit to the nation's capital.

This year marks the 101st anniversary of the gift of trees from Japan. The cherry blossoms draw about 1 million visitors to Washington each spring.
