Councilmember Wells suggests closing NoMa nightclubs
A Washington councilmember wants to remove nightclubs from the area where more than a dozen people were injured in a drive-by shooting early Monday, WTOP reports.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. near Washington's Sursum Corda neighborhood. One person remains in critical condition.
Tommy Wells, the chairman of the city's public safety committee, would like to close Fur and Ibiza, both located within a block of where 13 people were injured in the North Capitol Street shooting.
"I'm definitely going to do my best to remove the nightclubs from the area," he says.
Wells says the area has become too residential to support the nightclubs.
"Releasing 2,000 to 3,000 to 4,000 people between the two clubs at night really does have a major impact on an area that's no longer industrial," he says.
Police have not determined a motive.
