D.C. Taxicab Commission passes new rules for credit card fare payment

The ability to pay your cab fare using a credit card could come to D.C. by this summer.
Under the D.C. Taxicab Commission's new rules, drivers would have to install a non-cash payment option into their cabs by the end of Aug., the DCist reports.
The rules allow cabbies to pick from a variety of smart meter options, raises the drop fare to $3.25 and reinstates a $1 surcharge for additional passengers
The commission will vote to finalize the rules in May.
