Harriet Tubman monument to be built in Maryland
March 22, 2013 - 10:52 am
On Monday, President Obama is expected to name five new national monuments, including one on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. A monument paying tribute to Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railway will be built in Maryland.
The Conservation Fund, based in Arlington, donated property to the National Park Service that will be part of the monument.
Harriet Tubman is an American hero who escaped slavery but returned repeatedly to lead dozens of family members and friends to freedom along the Underground Railroad.
More information about the other four monuments from The New York Times.
