Kensington man killed in skiing accident at Snowmass
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A skier who died after hitting a tree at Snowmass ski area has been identified as 42-year-old David Schreitmueller of Kensington, Md.
The skier's father, Dick Schreitmueller, tells the Aspen Daily News his son loved skiing and was the kind of person who always wanted to help people. The elder Schreitmueller added that his son was a careful, skilled skier but often tried to do things that most people wouldn't try.
Aspen Skiing Co. officials say Schreitmueller was unconscious and unresponsive when ski patrol arrived at the scene Friday morning. He was pronounced dead at the base of the ski area.
Schreitmueller, who was wearing a helmet, was at Snowmass to compete in the NASTAR National Championships, but he wasn't on the course at the time of the accident.
