Michael Erdolino accused of creating fake baseball organization
A man has been arrested and charged for allegedly creating a fake baseball league.
Michael S. Erdolino, 38, created Southern Maryland Athletics Youth Baseball last September and recruited children for his team which would be based in St. Mary's County, police say.
Erdolino established a $500 registration fee per player and held several fundraisers in St. Mary's and Calvert counties.
Several victims were promised baseball practices, team insurance, uniforms and equipment. Only a few practices were held.
In early February, Erdolino met with detectives and was unable to provide any documentation of the accounting for the organization. He was arrested in Hollywood, Md. and charged with theft.
Erdolino was released from the St. Mary's County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
