Michael Hitzges, teacher, accused of being drunk at school
A Loudoun County, Va. teacher is accused of being drunk at school.
Police say Michael L. Hitzges, 47, is a driver's education teacher at Broad Run High School in Ashburn. An employee found him intoxicated Monday and reported him to a school resource officer.
Hitzges was charged with drunk in public and is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Dentention Center.
He's been at Broad Run High since 2004.
A letter sent home to parents from Principal Doug Anderson read, in part:
"...As you will probably see in media reports tonight, one of our science teachers, Michael Hitzges, was arrested at school today for being drunk in public.
His condition was reported to administration by staff.
I know there will be speculation about this incident. I would ask that you refrain from spreading rumors about this. This situation is under investigation by the sheriff’s office and we are cooperating fully..."
