NBA Global Games 2013: Washington Wizards to play in Brazil
After successful forays into China, Mexico, Japan, Canada and Spain, the NBA is adding some Brazilian flair to its preseason schedule next season, and the Washington Wizards will be a part of it.
The Wizards and Chicago Bulls will play the league's first-ever game in Brazil during the 2013 preseason, the league announced Tuesday. The game will be played Oct. 12, 2013 in Rio de Janeiro.
It's part of the NBA's Global Games initiative, which will place preseason games in Turkey, Spain, England, Taiwan, the Philippines and China in a two-week span.
Wizards forward Nene is a native of Brazil, being born in Sao Carlos and having established a foundation there to build facilities and provide resources for education and athletics to underprivileged children.
"I am very proud to represent the Wizards organization and the NBA in my home country of Brazil next October," Nene said in a statement.
