An officer struck in Southeast Washington Tuesday night had to wait nearly 20 minutes before an abulance arrived on the scene.
Police say the officer was struck near at 46th and A streets SE just after 6:30 p.m. The suspect fled the scene, leaving their white Lexus behind.
When the call was dispatched, D.C. said they had no available EMS units to send. An ambulance from Prince George's County arrived 20 minutes later. Nearly an hour passed between the time the officer was struck and his arrival time at MedStar Washington Hospital.
The officer, who has been a member of the department since 2005, is being treated for multiple injuries.
